Hi everyone,

Hope you’re having a great week! I’ve been loving these early fall days in New York and especially morning walks with Doug and Kimchi. In one of my first newsletters, I wrote about how much I cherish our weekend mornings together, and lately we’ve extended that ritual into the weekdays. We’ve started taking morning walks before work, which is such a nice way to ease into the day. When we have time, we’ll stop for coffee and matcha, and I’ll journal while Doug jots down a few notes for the day ahead.

A sunny morning at Maru 🤍

Weekends, though, are still my favorite. They’re more leisurely and drawn out. Usually, we stay close to home in Greenpoint, but a few Saturdays ago we decided to wander farther, down into Williamsburg. Below I’m sharing our little “itinerary” (if you can even call it that), including a new coffee shop with some of the best matcha in the city and a bakery turning out perfectly buttery, hot-out-of-the-oven croissants.

First, here’s a recipe for sheet pan kebabs. They’re made entirely on a sheet pan (no skewers!) and are super healthy and packed with flavor. You can eat them as a pita wrap with all the fixins (lemon-shallot yogurt, tomato, cucumber…) or deconstructed as a plate.

Also, my debut cookbook comes out March 3 and is available for preorder. Preorders are especially meaningful for a first-time author, so if you’re thinking of getting a copy, I’d be so grateful if you ordered early 🤍

These kebabs come together on a single sheet pan, no skewers required. They’re super healthy and get tons of flavor from spices and fresh herbs.

Five Minute Chili Butter Udon

Make sure to use frozen udon noodles (you can find them in the freezer section of most Asian stores or online, though I’ve even found them at my local supermarket), as those are chewier and thicker than the dry variety, making them perfect for coating in a buttery chili sauce.

Healthy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

These cookies look simple, but they’re the sweet treat I make the most. Sweetened with maple syrup and made with just 2 tablespoons of butter, they’re yummy and nourishing.

A Saturday Morning Stroll through Williamsburg and Greenpoint

When Doug and I found out that our favorite coffee shop in Los Angeles (Maru) had opened in Williamsburg, we knew we had to check it out. In our opinion, they make the best matcha lattes. We always order ours iced, half whole milk and half water so it’s not too milky, and half sweet since we don’t love overly sweet drinks.

We started the morning by walking Kimchi over to Transmitter Park, just a few blocks from our apartment, for her potty break. Now that she’s four, she’s gotten a little lazy and doesn’t love long walks. We were worried she wouldn’t make it all the way to Williamsburg, so we called an Uber Pet (you can select that option in the app if you’re bringing your dog) and rode down to Maru on Wythe Ave.

Moments before I spilled both matchas on the ground 🤭

We waited in line and got our matchas, then chaos ensued. I tried to take a photo, but since I’d already started drinking mine, I picked up Doug’s which was fuller and looked prettier. While I was framing the shot, I accidentally dropped his cup, and in my flailing attempt to save it, I also knocked over mine. There was a huge green puddle on the ground, and everyone was staring at us. Luckily, we were outside. We cleaned it up with napkins and thought about waiting in the line again but decided to move on. I was bummed because their matcha is so good and we’d trekked all the way to Williamsburg for it (ugh!). It’s all good though, we came back the following Monday for redemption :)
