Life Lately in New York & What I Cooked Last Week
Our go-to casual spots in the neighborhood, broccoli Parmesan pastina, cheesy veggie crostini, lemon roasted chicken and potatoes, egg McMuffins
Hi everyone,
Hope you’re having a great week! After spending the last few months in New York, our time here is wrapping up. Doug and I are squeezing in a little travel and some family time before heading back to Los Angeles in early December.

We’ve been savoring these last few weeks in New York and reflecting on our time here. The fall weather has been beautiful, and our neighborhood, Greenpoint, truly feels like home. I thought I’d share a glimpse of what life has looked like lately: some of our favorite local coffee shops, three incredible bakeries, a delicious Japanese bento lunch, and our current go-to restaurant in Brooklyn.
First, here’s a recipe for cheesy veggie crostini. Baked in the oven, they turn out super crispy on the bottom and creamy on top, and are packed with so many delicious veggies. I love serving them for a dinner party!
Also, my debut cookbook comes out March 3 and is available for preorder. Preorders are so helpful for first-time authors, so if you’re thinking of getting a copy, I’d be so grateful if you ordered early 🤍
What I Cooked Last Week! ↓
Cheesy Veggie Crostini
Whenever I make these for a dinner party, they disappear within minutes. The bottom gets golden and crisp, a perfect contrast to the cheesy topping.

Broccoli Parmesan Pastina
This dish is so soothing and comforting, I could not stop eating it. The chicken bone broth adds umami and protein.
Egg McMuffins
My aunt figured out a way to make 6 egg McMuffins all at once! They take only 5 minutes to prep and taste just like the real thing, if not better.
Lemony Roasted Chicken and Potatoes
A show-stopping easy and delicious dinner. The potatoes are infused with all the lemony-chicken flavors while the chicken skin gets super crispy. You’re going to love this one.
Life Lately in Greenpoint & Williamsburg
Coffee & matcha
Every morning, Doug and I have a ritual of going out for coffee or matcha. It’s one of our favorite parts of the day. When we have time, we’ll sit for a bit and I’ll do my morning journaling.
Rhythm Zero in Greenpoint makes incredible coffee. I usually get a cappuccino, and Doug goes for their cold brew. For matcha, we love Kettl, a tea house with an amazing selection of Japanese teas. My order is the suiteki matcha latte, half whole milk and half water. Then there’s Coffee Check, which we love for both matcha and coffee. They also have a nice seating area. When we’re in the mood for a longer walk, we’ll head to the new Maru in Williamsburg for their delicious matcha. I always get mine half sweet.
The best pastries
Before dating Doug, I wasn’t much of a pastry person, but I also probably hadn’t really had a great croissant. It’s something he’s always appreciated, and over the years I’ve become just as obsessed. We’re lucky to have three outstanding bakeries in our neighborhood that are honestly better than anything we’ve had in Paris or Copenhagen. Maybe we’re biased, but they’re truly that good. We usually save pastries for Fridays, weekends, or whenever we need a special treat.
