Five of My Favorite Restaurants in LA & What I Cooked Last Week
An amazing oyster bar, the best Persian food, my go-to spot for affordable sushi (and more!); life-changing bean and cheese burrito; one-skillet chicken & broccoli orzo; honey butter cornmeal pancakes
Hi everyone,
Hope you’re having a great week! Doug and I are back on the East Coast after a couple of months in LA. We arrived last weekend for Doug’s brother’s wedding (it was so much fun and absolutely beautiful) and we’ll be in New York through October, since Doug’s company is based here. We’re really excited to spend fall in the city.

Before leaving LA, we made sure to visit all our favorite spots. That last week especially, we crammed in as much of the food we’ll miss as possible. Below I’m sharing a list of five places we love, from a cozy neighborhood date-night oyster bar to the best Persian food I’ve ever had, plus a Korean BBQ restaurant we recently discovered and can’t stop thinking about.
First, here’s a recipe for these incredible honey butter cornmeal pancakes. I made them with my mom while she was in town and they completely blew us away. They’re super tender on the inside but have a little crunch from the cornmeal. You’ll whisk together melted butter and honey to drizzle on top at the end. We hope you try this one!
Also, my debut cookbook comes out March 3 and is available for preorder now. Your early support means the world 🥰
What I Cooked Last Week! ↓
Honey Butter Cornmeal Pancakes
These are from my mom, the queen of fluffy pancakes. Imagine pillowy melt-in-your mouth centers with texture pops from the cornmeal and plenty of honey butter drizzled on top.

Life-Changing Bean and Cheese Burrito
This burrito is one of the most delicious things my mom and I have made. We layered the beans with plenty of cheese and pan-fried it until the tortilla turned perfectly crispy.
One-Skillet Creamy Chicken & Broccoli Orzo
A creamy, cozy one-skillet dinner packed with protein and veggies. Comforting and easy to make, it’s perfect for those cooler days.
Five of My Favorite Restaurants in LA (That I’ll Miss in NY)
These are the spots Doug and I will miss most while we’re in New York for a few months.
Found Oyster
📍East Hollywood
A cute, charming oyster bar that’s perfect for a date night. Inside, there’s a long counter and a handful of two-tops, plus a few larger tables outside. We always start with oysters (they usually offer two types, so we’ll split four of each). The scallop tostada, with its sweet-tangy Thai lime sauce and basil leaves, is another must, along with the smoked trout dip. It comes with Ritz crackers and is so good it even inspired a recipe in my cookbook! Other favorites are the wedge salad and their fries, which taste like an elevated version of McDonald’s: so crispy and served piping hot. For dessert, don’t skip their delicious key lime pie.
