A Pizza Crawl Date Night & What I Cooked Last Week
Three Brooklyn Slice Shops (With Our Rankings!), Baked Crunchy Chicken Tacos, Grandpa’s Eggy Rice, Three-Ingredient Authentic Fettuccine Alfredo
Hi everyone,
I hope you’re having a great week! In case you missed it, Doug and I are in Brooklyn for the next couple of months, and one of the best parts of being here is, of course, the food.
A few weeks ago, I came into the city early to wander around before a dinner reservation. As I walked through the West Village, I realized I was starving and made a quick stop at Joe’s for a slice. (Funny enough, I wasn’t really a pizza person until I moved to New York after college, but now I love it.) Joe’s is actually a bit controversial in our household. Doug doesn’t like it, but I have a soft spot for it. It’s not the most mind-blowing pizza, but something about the simplicity really hits the spot. Maybe it’s just nostalgia, since it feels like classic New York to me. Either way, I was so happy I stopped by. That slice was just what I wanted and sparked a craving for more pizza.
The next night, Doug and I went on a little pizza crawl. We’d already had a few dinners out with friends that week, so we wanted something easy and low-key. It was actually Doug’s idea: he’s Mr. Adventure and always finds ways to make things more fun.
Below are the three pizza spots we tried that night. We each ranked all the slices we ate, so keep reading to find out our winner!
First, here’s a recipe for baked crunchy chicken tacos. It’s a dish I come back to again and again. The tacos get super crispy in the oven, and the filling is so flavorful. I hope you love them as much as I do!
What I Cooked Last Week! ↓
Baked Crunchy Chicken Tacos
One of my all-time favorite recipes. They’re so easy to make and are filled with tons of delicious spices.

Three-Ingredient Fettuccine Alfredo
Authentic fettuccine alfredo is made with just three ingredients: mix the hot pasta with butter, Parmesan, and pasta water until it emulsifies into a decadent, creamy sauce.
Grandpa’s Eggy Rice
A simple delicacy from my grandpa’s kitchen. Crack the eggs into steaming hot rice and sprinkle with furikake—it’s Korean comfort food!
Pizza Crawl Date Night
A couple Fridays ago, Doug had the idea to try three pizza spots, all within walking distance of our place in Greenpoint. We’d get two slices at each spot (six in total) and have the slices cut in half so we could split everything evenly. We decided to rank the slices separately and reveal our lists at the end to see if they matched. Since it was all counter service and super casual, we brought Kimchi along for the adventure.
L'Industrie
First up was L’Industrie, a spot in Williamsburg we’d been wanting to try. There’s usually a long line, but it moved quickly, and we had our slices within minutes of placing the order.
It was tough to choose what to order because there were so many great options! For some reason, we skipped their classic burrata and prosciutto slice (which I now regret because it looked amazing). Instead, we went with the sausage and pesto and the pepperoni.
The sausage and pesto was incredibly, mind-blowingly good. The cheese-to-sausage ratio was perfect, and the crust was super crispy with a nice chew. I’ve always thought white pizzas can be even better than red sauce ones, as you really taste the ingredients without the tomato getting in the way.
We chose the pepperoni because we kept eyeing the slices people were walking out with while we waited in line, and all those little pepperonis curled up and pooling with oil looked incredible. Sadly, this slice didn’t quite live up to our expectations. It wasn’t bad, just a little underwhelming, and not as crisp on the bottom. Maybe ours wasn’t the freshest piece out of the oven.
We jotted down our notes and rankings on our phones (no peeking!) and headed to the next stop.
